Holmesglen required a state of the art facility to offer its new nursing degree and associated health science diploma courses. The building was required to emulate an operational hospital in terms of the nursing activities and the facilities they could be expected to encounter in their workplace.
Building 3 is a Tertiary teaching facility used to train Nurses and Allied Health professionals. Ground Floor incorporates staff work areas and lounge, together with 200 seat Lecture Theatre. Floors above contain simulation hospital wards, laboratories and other training facilities supplemented by extensive equipment storage spaces. A rich audio visual platform underpins the training regime within this building.
The building design also included auxiliary health science teaching areas for allied health and community nursing studies, together with large scientific laboratories for microbiology and biochemistry.
Building 3 Health Science Building was awarded the Council of Educational Facility Planners International (CEFPI), Victoria Chapter Awards of the Australasia Region 2011 Awards for Outstanding School Facilities in the category of New Construction/New Individual Facility.
