The Kilbreda College Theatre project came about originally as a refurbishment of an existing facility that was no longer either useful or appropriate for the current school requirements, including the ability to welcome the entire parent cohort. The project required an upgrade from 75 fixed seats, to 400 seats that could be reconfigured to suit a variety of production and layout needs with ultimate flexibility and ease of operation.
An extension to the existing building was proposed, allowing the design to evolve within a limited budget to house a modern multi-functional and multi-purpose hall space that can accommodate performing arts education and performance, lectures, presentations from outside speakers, and college administrative functions alongside productions.
The facility also incorporates reticulated seating, full audio-visual facilities, stage gantry, and associated staging infrastructure as well as suitable prop storage space, two stand-alone dance studios adjacent to the hall which are cabled in and available for use as orchestra rooms for performances in lieu of an orchestra pit, administrative offices, as well as a grand entry foyer which doubles as a gallery and reception space.
